Brian's World is a true story of a child who was born with medical problems combined with learning disabilities. The book takes us through Brian's short life and all the heartache, sadness and feflection suffered by Brian and his loved ones as a result of the way Brian saw the world. Brian's mother depicts Brian's childhood as sometimes sad and many times happy. Together they shared love, life, laughter and tears. She wrote this book so that parents of children with learning disabilities will realise that they are not alone. The author also hopes to show other parents how fortunate they are and how their ations and words impact those who are struggling for just a minute's "normalness". Brian was an extraordinarily bright boy who saw the world through rose coloured glasses. He went from modeling to a life filled with drugs and alcohol. Through it all, his mother was ever at his side with love and understanding. The story begins with Brian's birth in Eastern Canada and takes us to the shores of th west coast. Brian's World is a true story about a troubled youth who became a Kamloops "Street Kid". Due to Brian's severe learning disabilities and his inability to fit into a world he didn't understand, went from a life of moeling to a life filled with self-doubt and low self esteem. Peer pressures to fit in led Brian to the world of drugs and alcohol. Eventually with the help of the Kamloops Safe House staff, Brian was able to turn his life around. He then helped otoher troubled Kamlops youth with their struggles. Shortly after turning his life around, Brian died of natural causes, but he was not forgotten by his friends on the "streets". Several of these youths have written letters and poems telling how their lives have been turned around because of this very special youn man called, Brian.
